How to count to ten in Maori :
1 tahi , 2 rua, 3 toru, 4 wha, 5 rima,
6 ono, 7 whitu, 8 waru, 9 iwa, 10 tekau.
It is interesting that the pronunciation of five Maori vowels (a e i o u ) is exactly the same as in Chinese Mandarin (Hanyu Pinyin).
The Maori word “hui” which means meeting or gathering has the same meaning and pronunciation as Chinese Mandarin “hui”.
